Position: Account Clerk II- Reservoir Entrance Station (Seasonal/Part-Time & Full-Time)

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Enjoys working outdoors with the public and has excellent customer service skills. Applicants must be available to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays.

This recruitment is primarily being held to fill two (2) seasonal/part‑time vacancies, one (1) at Modesto Reservoir and one (1) at Woodward Reservoir. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future full‑time, part‑time, and seasonal vacancies within the Department.

THE POSITION

The Account Clerk II is the journey level classification in this series. Assignments frequently overlap those given general clerical classifications; however, they are distinguished by the degree of mathematical, record‑keeping, bookkeeping and clerical accounting duties assigned. This position exists in various County departments and is subject to overtime, standby, holiday, shift, and callback assignments. Performs related duties as assigned.

The Account Clerk II, at the Department of Parks and Recreation, works in the entrance station at Woodward (Oakdale, CA) or Modesto (Waterford, CA) Reservoir.

The seasonal work schedule will be up to 40 hours per week and will include working weekends and holidays. Morning shifts may start as early as 5:00 a.m.; late shifts will vary with start times from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Account Clerk II may be required to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions, including high‑heat temperatures. Seasonal positions will be needed through mid‑September.

Part‑time, extra‑help, or seasonal is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. These positions are non‑benefited except for participation in a 401(a) program with Nationwide.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Customer service, including explaining rules and regulations to guests
  • Assist the public, answer phones, and perform a limited amount of typing
  • Act as a cashier, handling money, making change, providing receipts, and tabulating totals daily
  • Collect day‑use or camping fees from Reservoir entrance stations via a POS system
  • Check receipts to ensure customers have paid appropriate fees
  • Manage a reservation system, check customers in or out, assign first‑come‑first‑serve customers into a site
  • Open and close lanes of incoming traffic as needed
  • Provide change to cashiers as needed
  • Verify cash totals at the end of the shift
  • Deposit cash into safe
  • Data entry and reporting
  • Prepare and audit invoices, purchase orders, and claims
  • Gather, assemble, tabulate, proof, extend, balance, summarize, and post various data
  • Maintain journals and control records
  • Balance and bill accounts
  • Compile routine statistical and financial reports
  • Assist in payroll preparation, as assigned
  • Assist entrance station staff during breaks and lunches
  • Work all weekends and holidays
  • Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE
  • Current office practices and procedures
  • Principles and methods of financial and statistical clerical work
  • Alphabetic and numeric filing procedures
SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Perform basic mathematical computations
  • Operate various office machines (computer, fax, copy, microfiche, ten‑key)
  • Deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Type at a reasonable rate of speed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Equivalent to one (1) year of full‑time general clerical experience involving computations, financial or statistical record keeping or reporting

NOTE:

Relevant college education or business school training may be used to substitute for up to six months of the required experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) months of experience working at Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation
