The Area Quality and Safety Officer provides strategic oversight, leadership, and guidance across small-to-medium healthcare service areas. This role leads the design, development, and implementation of quality, safety, and risk management programs to optimize clinical outcomes, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous performance improvement.

The incumbent will serve as a clinical quality subject matter expert
—championing high reliability, safety, and compliance initiatives while fostering collaboration across medical staff, administrative teams, and executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee quality, safety, and performance improvement programs across multiple hospitals.
  • Direct accreditation, licensing, and compliance activities (Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH).
  • Implement High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and Daily Management Systems.
  • Guide infection prevention and risk management initiatives, including RCA, FMEA, and CAPA.
  • Utilize data analytics to monitor quality metrics, outcomes, and trends.
  • Mentor and lead interdisciplinary teams to achieve strategic performance objectives.
  • Act as a liaison for internal and external audits, regulatory visits, and grievance reviews.
  • Oversee patient safety, quality of care reviews, and improvement initiatives.
  • Drive organizational learning, training, and performance management.
  • Partner with leadership to align business strategy with quality improvement goals.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Master’s degree in Business, Health Care, Public Administration, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare quality, clinical, or leadership roles.
  • 7+ years in healthcare management or administration.
  • Experience leading teams in multi-facility or hospital environments.
  • Proven track record with regulatory bodies (Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH).
  • Expertise in High Reliability Organizations (HRO) and Daily Management Systems.
  • CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) or equivalent certification (required or within 24 months).
  • Strong experience with data management, performance improvement, and training delivery.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
  • Performance Improvement (PI) certifications or Lean/Six Sigma training.
  • Experience with health care compliance, patient safety programs, and data analytics tools.
