About J.R. Wagner Fire Protection, Inc. J.R. Wagner Fire Protection, Inc. is a fire protection contractor committed to quality, safety, and customer service. We design, install, and service water-based fire protection systems across commercial, industrial, and residential projects.

Position Summary We are seeking a reliable, responsible Fire Sprinkler Designer who can produce accurate, code-compliant sprinkler system designs using Autosprink. This role is open to highly experienced designers as well as motivated, less-experienced candidates looking to grow with guidance and training.

Key Responsibilities

* Produce complete, code-compliant fire sprinkler system layouts (wet, dry, preaction, and specialty as applicable) using Autosprink

* Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, and head spacing; verify water supply and system performance

* Develop 3D models, coordinated plans, details, hangers/seismic bracing, and riser/valve room layouts

* Generate submittal packages, fabrication/shop drawings, stock lists/material takeoffs, and as-builts

* Read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and reflected ceiling plans; coordinate to resolve conflicts and ensure constructability

* Research and apply NFPA standards, local codes, and AHJ requirements; prepare permit submittals and respond to comments

* Participate in BIM coordination and clash detection with project teams as needed

* Conduct site surveys and field measurements; support field crews with RFIs, changes, and problem-solving

* Maintain schedules, budgets, quality control, and documentation across multiple projects

* Communicate proactively with internal teams, clients, GCs, engineers, and AHJs

* Mentor junior team members (for senior-level candidates); actively engage in training and development (for growth-track candidates)

Required Qualifications

* Proficiency with Autosprink for design and hydraulic calculations

* Solid understanding of NFPA codes applicable to water-based systems (NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, 20; familiarity with local amendments)

* Ability to read and coordinate building plans and specifications

* Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management

* Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently with minimal supervision

* Effective written and verbal communication skills

* Valid driver’s license and ability to perform site visits (as required by projects)

* Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

* NICET II–IV in Water-Based Systems Layout (or actively pursuing NICET certification)

* Experience producing stock lists/fabrication releases and as-builts

* Knowledge of seismic bracing requirements and coordination with structural systems

* Experience with BIM coordination and tools such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM 360/ACC

* Field experience and/or installation knowledge

* Experience across multiple project types (commercial, industrial, multifamily/residential, retrofit/tenant improvement)
