Job Title

Part‑Time Instructor of Machine Tool Technology – School of Industry and Trades – Modesto Junior College (2025‑2026)

Salary Range

The hourly range: $78.15 to $124.94. Doctorate range: $92.09 to $128.22. Part‑time faculty office hours paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.

Benefits

Not eligible for benefits except Workers’ Compensation coverage. Not eligible to participate in the District’s benefit programs.

Scope of Assignment

The successful candidate will join an industry and trades department that continues to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through the implementation of strategies geared to increase student equity.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree(s) or higher and two years of professional experience, or an Associate’s degree(s) and six years of professional experience. Professional experience required must be directly related to teaching assignment.

Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students; sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.

Physical and Mental Standards
  • Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods and move around lab and classroom environments.
  • Dexterity: fine motor skills sufficient to operate machining equipment, tools, keyboards, and instructional materials.
  • Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close‑up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.
  • Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate, manage safety, meet deadlines, frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time‑limited assignments, and engage with diverse students.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Education and/or experience in teaching machining or machine tool technology at the community college level.
  • Current knowledge of manual machining, CNC machining, CAD/CAM applications, metrology, blueprint reading, GD&T, machine tool safety, and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of assessment processes for improving student success.
  • Competence in new and emerging machining technologies and instructional methods.
  • Experience working with racially minoritized students and commitment to addressing equity gaps.
  • Culturally responsive teaching experience related to machining and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Hispanic‑Serving Institution best practices.
General

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching lower‑division machining courses, including machine tool processes, advanced machining, CNC operations, CAD/CAM applications, manufacturing processes, and precision measurement.
  • Advancing equitable student learning through high‑quality instruction.
  • Preparing course materials, grading assignments, and maintaining student records.
  • Developing and assessing student learning outcomes and using results to improve instruction.
  • Participating in professional development and FLEX activities.
  • Maintaining appropriate professional conduct and ethics.
