Community Lifelong Learning Specialist 75% – Community Lifelong Learning/Workforce Development (Modesto Junior College)
Location: Modesto, CA – Modesto Junior College
Salary: $3,796 – $4,850 annually Classified Salary Schedule). Appointment begins at first step; increments over years.
Workweek: 30 hrs per week / 12 months per year. Monday – Friday 8:00‑2:30 am / 8:00‑12:30 pm. Evening/weekend may be required.
Benefits: District covers health, dental, vision, and life insurance premiums. Estimated cost $24,408 annually.
Job DescriptionDefinition: Under direction, performs complex technical administrative work in support of a specialized community lifelong learning program; plans, organizes, assists with developing community lifelong learning fee‑funded, not‑for‑credit, and certificated classes; conducts needs assessment surveys, identifies gaps, schedules classes, creates marketing materials, monitors enrollment, and recommends adjustments.
Responsibilities- Plan and implement specific groups of community lifelong learning classes; coordinate course development, instructor selection, scheduling, and registration.
- Conduct community needs assessments, analyze data, and devise strategies to reach potential and current community groups; recommend program modifications.
- Maintain a list of resources and current educational opportunities in the community.
- Recruit, interview, verify, and monitor instructors; ensure quality assurance; manage hiring referrals.
- Schedule classes, seminars, workshops; coordinate dates, facilities, instructors; register students; process tuition payments; handle cancellations.
- Coordinate curriculum development and preparation for assigned classes; work with instructors to meet program requirements; procure materials.
- Develop and distribute promotional materials, class schedules, brochures, and catalogs; maintain district website listings.
- Ensure instructors meet state and other teaching requirements; issue certificates upon completion; coordinate special requirements with external agencies.
- Maintain manual and automated record systems; run queries, tabulate data, prepare reports; identify trends.
- Communicate with community members, schedule classes, and participate in outreach programs.
- Serve as a technical resource explaining policies and procedures to faculty, students, staff, and the public.
- Prepare, recommend, and monitor budgets; initiate appropriation, expenditure, and revenue transfers; maintain fiscal integrity; retrieve budget reports.
- Process purchase requisitions, invoices, and payments.
- Establish and maintain complex file and record systems, including confidential materials.
- Respond to complex inquiries and correspondence; prepare documents for administrative review.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of community education program operations, outreach methods, curriculum development, marketing, spreadsheet and desktop publishing, office procedures, and federal/state/local regulations.
- Ability to support the program through course development, facility assignment, instructor selection, and registration; create marketing materials; develop outreach tools; monitor services and recommend improvements; interact effectively with diverse customers; communicate orally and in writing.
- Pattern I:
Two years equivalent to an Administrative Specialist at YCCD. - Pattern II:
Associate’s degree in business administration or related field; four years of progressively responsible administrative support, including two years of technical administrative work in program administration, budgeting, accounting, contracts, payroll, scheduling, purchasing, personnel, curriculum, or other specialized areas. Academic experience desirable.
- Valid California driver’s license may be required depending on assignment.
- Mobility, dexterity, lifting up to 10 lb; visual, hearing, emotional/psychological ability per job demands.
