Operations provides warehousing, packaging, transportation, bleach manufacture, and office support functions for the district or Company. The driver delivers chemicals and/or compressed gases in cargo tank trucks. Other duties may be assigned.
Knowledge of:- DOT and FMCSA Regulations for Hazardous and Non-Hazardous materials
- Safe loading and unloading of liquid bulk and packaged liquid hazmat
- Shipping papers (Manifest/Bills of Lading)
- Placarding & Labeling
- Emergency Response Information
- Personal Protective Equipment
- First Aid for Exposure
- Air Brake Systems
- Safe Work Practices
- U. S. Department of Transportation regulations covering drivers and the shipping of hazardous materials
- Hours of Service
- Defensive Driving
- Roll Stability Control
- Braking Control
- Backing and Docking
- Connection/Disconnection of Hoses & Coupling
- Gauging & Measurement
- Manual Transmission
- Pre and Post Transfer Checks
- Tanker, flatbed and straight truck operation
- Lift, carry, and maneuver heavy hoses, cylinders, equipment (often 50-75 lbs. or more) during loading, unloading and maintenance task
- Load and unload cargo tanks, performing appropriate actions in the proper sequence
- Frequently exerts forces equivalent to lifting up to 25 pounds or occasionally 50 pounds
- May sit for long periods of time while driving
- Prepare driver’s logs and other transportation documents
- Work alone most of the normal workday
- Work with delivery deadlines
- Observe and respond promptly to changing conditions, such as traffic, weather, and road conditions
- Visually inspect vehicles, loaded materials and unloading facilities at customer locations
- Read and understand training materials
- Wear required safety equipment
- Provide quick reaction or immediate response to required situations
- Cooperate and get along with co-workers and customer representatives
- Must be adaptable; job duties may change based on evolving products, commercial vehicle units, and overall plant needs
- Extreme Hot and Cold Temperatures
- Traffic and weather conditions
- Hazardous materials, such as flammable liquids, corrosive materials and compressed gases
- Work irregular hours, 12+ Hour shifts
- Standing, Stooping, Climbing, Reaching, Lifting regularly
- Travel to other plants may be required based on business needs
- Drivers are expected to report to work on time and to work overtime or irregular hours, as needed, to meet customer needs
- General Company policies regarding attendance, vacation, and leaves of absence apply.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker Endorsements (Required)
- Ability to operate a Manual Transmission Tractor (Required)
- Two years’ verifiable experience operating a Commercial Tractor Trailer Tanker (Required)
- Clear FMCSA Clearinghouse and satisfactory MVR & PSP (Good Driving Record) (Required)
- Ability to operate commercial vehicles across state lines (Required)
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical (Required)
- Reliable transportation (Required)
- Stable employment history (Required)
- Candidate must reside in the Mobile, AL metropolitan area
- Occasional travel to other plants may be required based on business needs
- Must be adaptable; job duties may change based on evolving products, commercial vehicle units, and overall plant needs
