Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in physical education or a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, one year of experience in athletic training or a related field, and current National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree and experience in collegiate setting preferred.
The University of South Alabama’s Athletics Sports Medicine department is seeking to hire an Athletic Trainer I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions- Participates in the development, coordination and administration of comprehensive sports medicine programs involving intercollegiate sports.
- Prepares athletes for daily practices and games through conditioning and prevention of athletic injuries and development of rehabilitation programs.
- Supervises team medical needs during participation, athletic contests and team travel as directed by the athletic director/associate athletic director.
- Coordinates injury prevention and management, assists with the areas of concussion management, and sickle cell trait screenings.
- Operates a variety of athletic training room equipment, to include medical modalities.
- Maintains a daily record of treatments, injuries, and protects medical documents.
- Supervises, evaluates, trains, and approves work of graduate assistant athletic trainers, student workers, and undergraduate interns in the sports medicine area.
- Assists with the development of sports medicine program for the University including: injury prevention, programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes.
- Provides athletic training services for the University’s athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
- Assists with the coordination and scheduling of preparticipation physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
- Works in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.
- Administers a variety of advanced athletic training room rehabilitation.
- Evaluates and recommends new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program.
- Maintains daily records and documentation of injuries, treatments and medical information of athletes.
- Ability to work night and weekends.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
- Related duties as required.
