Diesel Technician

Position Description

We are hiring a Permanent Full‑Time Experienced Mid‑Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Mobile, Alabama.

• Hourly Pay: $25.10 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700 total
• Quarterly Bonus: Up to $500 each quarter (four times per year)
• Sign‑On Bonus: $1,250 at 30 days and $1,250 at 90 days
• Schedule: Monday–Friday; weekends off
• Hours: First shift 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repairs
• Conduct standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections
• Carry out preventive maintenance
• Diagnose mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers when applicable
• Identify root causes of basic failures and perform required repairs
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints
• Use shop management systems and electronic documentation
• Work in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
• Perform other support duties as required, including service island support

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or technical certification; post‑secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and experience in automotive gas or diesel engine repair, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Two (2) years or more of classroom training and work experience, preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred; must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire if not already holding one

• Must pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background and motor‑vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)
