ResponsibilitiesThe Vascular Access Team members care for patients that need PIV access, midline placement or PICC line placement, line declotting or require additional line assessment; maintain clinical competencies to effectively serve as a vascular access team member; assist with setting standards of practice and patient care for selected patient populations; identify learning needs of in‑house healthcare personnel; promote utilization of referral and consultation services;
assist with quarterly reports of services provided; assist with other reports as requested; provide and develop formal or informal education programs related to quality patient care for selected populations; assist with annual recertification for VAT members; assist with planning and providing orientation programs for new members; assist with the development of annual competencies for the VAT and stay abreast of the latest vascular access trends;
practice family‑centered nursing according to policies and the Nurse Practice Act; supervise, plan, evaluate, and coordinate patient care provided by other licensed and non‑licensed staff; demonstrate CPR according to American Heart Association standards; abide by and enforce all compliance requirements and policies and perform these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values; adhere to hospital policies including confidentiality;
serve as preceptor for new employees and nursing students; assist the Nurse Manager in the coordination of pediatric and adult vascular access services; maintain a database of all PICC line insertions and specialty patients; develop policies and procedures, and provide educational training for VAT team members and other staff involved in the care of these patients; attend regularly and promptly;
work the defined schedule, overtime, and call as required; perform related duties as required.
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
QualificationsGraduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama, licensure with the state of Alabama as a registered nurse, and at least one year working as a registered nurse. BSN preferred.
