VARIOUS SHIFTS AVAILABLE

NEW, STATE-OF-THE-ART UNIT

Practice family-centered nursing according to policies and the Nurse Practice Act. Serve as Charge Nurse when assigned. Supervise, plan, evaluate, and coordinate patient care provided by licensed and non-licensed staff. Utilize the nursing process to assess patients, plan individualized care, identify expected outcomes, and implement and evaluate nursing interventions for patients and families. Provide direct patient care based on unit-specific competencies.

Perform therapeutic procedures and assist with diagnostic procedures. Administer medications, including controlled substances, via all routes. Administer blood and blood products. Respond appropriately to emergency patient situations. Start IVs. Assist with activities of daily living. Perform basic life support and manage cardiac/respiratory arrest situations. Work with minimal supervision to perform patient care safely. When performing skilled procedures, understand and communicate the purpose, rationale, precautions, and observations.

Use proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients or equipment. Educate patients and families by planning, coordinating, and delegating educational needs. Use a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information System. Communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, and the healthcare team in person and via telephone. Respond promptly to unit and overhead pages. Maintain accurate and complete medical records, including admission assessments, flow charts, discharge and pain assessments, MAK/MAR, restraint forms, and physician orders.

Evaluate and finalize patient care records. Complete all duties positively and cooperatively. Meet all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements. Practice cost-effective care. Follow infection control and safety standards. Keep the unit neat and organized. Provide competent care to Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric patients. Follow Heart Failure Protocol. Participate in hourly rounds. As Charge Nurse, organize and direct activities to meet patient and staff needs.

Communicate with the Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator regarding unit status, patient issues, staffing, and quality management. Resolve problems and assist with shift duties as needed. Verify emergency equipment functionality. Demonstrate CPR according to American Heart Association standards. Serve as a preceptor for new employees and students. Follow all patient safety, performance, and compliance standards. Maintain confidentiality. Participate in committees and performance improvement activities.

Maintain regular and punctual attendance, working scheduled hours and overtime as required. Perform related duties as needed.

Graduation from an accredited nursing school and a current Alabama RN license or Multi-State RN License per the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
