Job Description: The Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for an Automatic Drilling Unit (ADU) Technician to join our Manufacturing department based in Mobile, AL
. This is a 2nd shift position with a work schedule of Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm. The ADU Technician provides comprehensive technical and mechanical support for our ADU systems, which automate high‑precision drilling critical to aircraft assembly. The role is responsible for setting up, repairing, implementing, and calibrating all ADU equipment, fixtures, and templates to meet production requirements, and collaborating directly with production teams both in the ADU shop and on the production line to ensure equipment uptime and manufacturing consistency.
- Perform the complete setup, calibration, and implementation of all ADU equipment, cutting tools, and drilling templates.
- Conduct ongoing preventative maintenance and execute timely technical repairs on ADU systems to ensure maximum uptime for the A220/A320 Final Assembly Line (FAL).
- Oversee the full qualification process for new ADU systems and support their successful entry into service.
- Provide technical oversight and on‑the‑job instruction to FAL employees, ensuring safe and efficient use of ADU equipment.
- Champion Airbus best practices, actively advise teams on process optimization, and meticulously record lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, maintenance of ADU systems, test equipment, or equivalent mechanical or technical vocation (e.g., automotive transmission repair, engine overhauls).
- Preferred 5+ years of hands‑on experience in maintenance of ADU systems, drilling templates, cutting tools, and test equipment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A vocational/technical certificate will be considered in lieu of experience for entry‑level positions.
- 100% onsite.
- Vision adequate to read material on computer screens and to identify individuals.
- Hearing sufficient for office conversation and safety alerts.
- Speaking ability for in‑person and electronic communication with groups.
- Equipment operation: ability to operate hydraulic lifts and arms.
- Carrying: occasionally carry up to 20 lbs (9 kg).
- Lifting: occasionally lift up to 30 lbs (14 kg).
- Pushing/Pulling: ability to push/pull items in office and shop areas.
- Sitting: ability to sit for extended periods at the computer and in meetings.
- Squatting/Kneeling: occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve items on low shelves.
- Standing: ability to stand for extended periods while delivering information.
- Travel/Mobility: ability to travel overseas and domestically.
- Walking: ability to walk through office and production areas, including uneven indoor or outdoor surfaces.
- Must be able to work in the US without current or future need for visa sponsorship.
