Job Description Summary

The University of South Alabama's Central Utilities department is seeking to hire a Superintendent, Utilities. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions

These are the job duties required of the position.

Essential Functions

• Directs work and project assignments to maintenance supervisor in the physical plant operations, repairs and maintenance of systems and equipment.
• Provides direct supervision and coordinates emergency operations and repairs during internal and external disasters and utility interruptions and switching.
• Provides scheduling and sequencing for operation of chillers, steam generators, hot water generator, air and vacuum compressors, fans air handling systems, emergency generators and other related items.
• Acts as liaison between Plant Operations and other departments to discuss and plan repairs and maintenance of systems and equipment.
• Travels to various sites to periodically inspect equipment, systems, buildings and grounds to determine needed repairs and develops cost estimates.
• Coordinates repairs and modifications by outside maintenance and construction companies, tracking man hours, materials used and verification of invoices.
• Prepares purchasing information, equipment and repair specifications for bidding purposes.
• Coordinates acquisitions of repair parts, tools, equipment, office supplies and other materials for Plant Operations and other departments.
• Provides periodic and initial training of maintenance and operations personnel including safety, fire, disaster, utility management program as required.
• Verifies accuracy and makes corrections to payroll and timekeeping records for staff employees and temporary contract labor personnel.
• Oversees preventative maintenance operations, including water chemical treatment, contract maintenance repairs and operations, and other repairs as necessary.
• Responds to after-hour emergencies and equipment failure as needed.
• Safely performs all duties and responsibilities to include climbing steps, ladders, crawling into ceiling spaces, and the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Distinguishes correct colors of wiring.
• Regular and prompt attendance.
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
• Related duties as required.
