Overview

DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR (MADM):
Bowhead seeks a Database Administrator to join our team in Mobile, AL to support the Geographical Information Systems Program (GIS) within the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District, Spatial Data Branch. The Database Administrator's primary responsibilities include installing, testing, implementing database management systems and related products, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents.

Responsibilities
  • Reviewing service related reports (e.g.: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved.
  • Ensuring recoverability and adequate disaster recovery of databases, responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with database engineering to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.
  • Ensuring databases are tuned for optimal performance and provide advice on the logical design of databases.
  • Demonstrate a service-oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, focus on managing and resolving issues, establishing and maintaining communication with technology customers to keep them updated.
  • Update and maintain master GIS (ArcGIS) and associated database for gold exploration data ensuring consistency and quality of data, coordinate and manage GIS consistently across work groups, regional, district exploration and development geology.
  • Provide GIS technical assistance and training to geological staff, assist in preparation of technical reports.
Qualifications
  • Associates degree or equivalent.
  • Two to five (5+) years relevant technical experience.
  • Intermediate-to-advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite—Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Strong desire to learn and ability to pivot as technology changes.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically
Security Clearance

SECURITY

CLEARANCE REQUIRED:

Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. US Citizenship is a requirement for admission to this location.
