Job Summary

Patient Transporter – Facilitating internal hospital patient moves.

Responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment, and patient‑related items to their destinations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Properly and safely transport patients, securing IVs, drainage tubes, etc.
  • Use wheelchairs and other approved rolling stock to carry out the essential duties of the position.
  • Demonstrate competency in transporting all specific age groups.
  • Ensure the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients to their destination using the proper requested equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing personnel, clinicians, technicians or reception and dispatch.
  • Ensure the comfort of the patient by being attentive, offering blankets, checking modesty and engaging in appropriate conversation. Never transport patients in severe pain.
  • Alert nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.
  • Maintain equipment and report equipment needing repairs.
  • Comply with regulatory agency standards, including federal, state and JCAHO.
  • Adhere to facility confidentiality and patient rights policies as outlined in the HIPAA procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
