Certified Nursing Assistant, PRN
Join to apply for the Certified Nursing Assistant, PRN role at AltaPointe Health Systems. Our children’s hospital serves children ages 5 to 12 and adolescents ages 13 to 19 who are in psychiatric crisis. The program provides assessment and stabilization of psychiatric symptoms with the goal of promoting the highest level of functioning through individualized treatment plans and rapid transition to the least restrictive level of care.
The estimated stay is three to ten days.
- Performs daily tasks of vital signs, blood sugar testing, intakes & outputs, EKGs, and assisting consumers with activities of daily living under the direction of a licensed nurse.
- Provides ongoing monitoring and interaction with the consumers.
- Provides daily assessment of the consumer’s behavior and records, submitting information according to policy and standards.
- Assists consumers with personal care, activities, current events, and safety issues.
- Provides training on basic living skills according to the consumer’s psychiatric rehabilitation goals.
- Demonstrates the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation.
- Effectively collaborates with the treatment team members.
- Demonstrates willingness to work on any unit at BayPointe/EastPointe based on facility needs.
- Models appropriate behavior, including but not limited to communication skills, grooming, manners, etc.
- Meets AltaPointe productivity standards.
- Provides one‑to‑one coverage to consumers on special status as assigned.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Reports accidents or driving violations to supervisor and human resources.
- Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement.
- Actively works to enhance skills.
- Documents in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policy.
- Documents in a clear and concise manner the types of consumers’ problems, daily progress notes, progress on BLSs, treatment goals addressed, and services provided.
- Actively participates in performance improvement activities.
- Actively participates in AltaPointe committees as required.
- Follows AltaPointe policies and procedures.
- Attends appropriate in‑service trainings and workshops.
- Seeks supervision and consultation as needed.
- Documents legibly.
- Documents activities performed.
- Treats consumers with care, dignity, and compassion.
- Respects consumers’ privacy and confidentiality.
- Is pleasant and cooperative with others.
- Assists consumers and visitors as needed.
- Personal values do not inhibit ability to relate and care for others.
- Is sensitive to the consumers’ needs, expectations, and individual differences.
- Is gentle and calm with consumers and families.
- Frequent standing, sitting, and walking in bursts of 5–10 minutes. Occasionally extended pacing or sustained positions may be required.
- Occasional forward bending from the hips while kneeling to reach to the side.
- Occasional full squat/lunge from a standing position.
- Occasional maintenance of back extension while on stomach with body weight on hips and legs for several minutes.
- Occasional ability to place one knee and one elbow on the same side of the body.
- Occasional kneel and reach to the floor.
- Lift up to 10 pounds from the floor to various levels, occasionally to overhead during the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to assist in activities of daily living; lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
- Strong grasp required to use keys to open doors and maintain constant contact with a consumer during restraint procedures or other hold techniques.
- Pushing/pulling force up to 25 pounds occasionally during the shift.
- Ability to ambulate quickly (e.g., jog/run up to 0.1 mile) to assist coworkers with a consumer in a restraint procedure.
- Some activities may involve playing or games inside or outside the facility.
- Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- High School Diploma or GED and current Certified Nursing Assistant in Alabama required.
