The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and respectful transportation for individuals living in a residential group home. This role supports daily activities, medical appointments, community outings, and other approved destinations while promoting dignity, independence, and person-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely transport individuals to and from medical appointments, day programs, employment sites, recreational activities, and community outings
  • Ensure all passengers follow safety procedures, including seat belt use and mobility device securement
  • Assist individuals with entering and exiting the vehicle as needed
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and trip documentation
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly
  • Keep vehicles clean, fueled, and in good working condition
  • Follow all agency policies, state regulations, and HIPAA confidentiality requirements
  • Communicate effectively with residential staff regarding schedules, changes, and individual needs
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral or medical situations during transport following training and protocols
  • Represent the agency professionally in the community
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle record check
  • Basic knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed
  • Physical ability to assist passengers and manage mobility equipment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or in human services
  • CPR, First Aid, and defensive driving certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Familiarity with Medicaid-funded residential or waiver services
