Responsibilities- Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and hospital policies and procedures, including those pertaining to confidentiality;
- Demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards;
- Utilizes the principles of aseptic practice and initiates corrective action when breaks occur;
- Establishes and maintains a sterile field;
- Performs scrub duties;
- Performs sponge and sharp counts;
- Inspects sterile items for contamination before opening;
- Decontaminates instruments according to unit protocols;
- Provides direct patient care according to unit specific competencies;
- Identifies and monitors medications administered from the sterile field;
- Responds appropriately to emergency patient situations;
- Utilizes a PC or terminal to access the Hospital Information System (HIS) and ORSOS system;
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards and Electrosurgery Safety Policy and Procedures;
- Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and members of the healthcare team in person and via telephone;
- Responds to overhead pages;
- Accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records;
- Participates on committees as assigned;
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned;
- Regular and prompt attendance;
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime and call as required;
- Must be available in hospital within (30) minutes of call;
- Related duties as required.
High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a scrub technician training course.
