• Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and hospital policies and procedures, including those pertaining to confidentiality;
• Demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards;
• Utilizes the principles of aseptic practice and initiates corrective action when breaks occur;
• Establishes and maintains a sterile field;
• Performs scrub duties;
• Performs sponge and sharp counts;
• Inspects sterile items for contamination before opening;
• Decontaminates instruments according to unit protocols;
• Provides direct patient care according to unit specific competencies;
• Identifies and monitors medications administered from the sterile field;
• Responds appropriately to emergency patient situations;
• Utilizes a PC or terminal to access the Hospital Information System (HIS) and ORSOS system;
• Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards and Electrosurgery Safety Policy and Procedures;
• Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and members of the healthcare team in person and via telephone;
• Responds to overhead pages;
• Accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records;
• Participates on committees as assigned;
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned;
• Regular and prompt attendance;
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime and call as required;
• Must be available in hospital within (30) minutes of call;
• Related duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a scrub technician training course.
