Responsibilities
Perform public safety work engaging directly in firefighting and station and equipment maintenance activities.
RequirementsMinimum Qualification Requirements
- Graduation from a standard senior high school, or completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license from state of residence.
- Applicants must submit either a Fire Fighter I certificate or a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) document to be considered.
- Certified applicants (Fire Fighter I from Alabama Fire College or Proboard/IFSAC approved certificates) are eligible for the online examination to be waived.
- Non‑certified applicants must attach a CPAT document completed within the past year.
- All applicants must pass an examination to qualify for this position. Details regarding the examination will be emailed to qualified candidates.
- Applicants must meet the established medical and physical standards; the medical examination will be conducted by a physician designated by the Personnel Board and will be at the candidate’s expense.
- City of Mobile: $51,402 - $82,174 per year
- City of Prichard: $35,664 - $55,320 per year
- City of Chickasaw: $41,280 - $64,044 per year
- City of Saraland: $41,470 - $66,296 per year
- City of Bayou La Batre: $37,240 - $59,535 per year
- City of Satsuma (amended 1/3/25): $40,458^ - $64,678 per year (5% incentive pay increase for Fire Fighters who have completed Fire Fighter I and Fire Fighter II training from the Alabama Fire College)
