The Controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, and to enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results. The Controller position reports directly to the Managing Member.
Position Duties- Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing accounting policies and procedures.
- Provide status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data. Implement solutions for continual financial improvement.
- Own the monthly and annual closing processes.
- Ensure that payroll is completed in a timely manner, and oversee outsourced functions, specifically payroll.
- Responsible for management of A/R and A/P.
- Responsible for cash/treasury management.
- Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
- Analyze all costs and find ways to provide cost reductions.
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
- Provide financial analyses as needed, for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Work with Management to develop budgets for all departments.
- Manage various annual renewals such as applicable licenses.
- Complete and maintain commission statements for all sales personnel.
- Maintain the company Line of Credit.
- Oversee and analyze insurance policies and transactions.
- Calculate, prepare and submit 1099s to subcontractors and IRS.
- Calculate, prepare and submit the annual Form 2290 (Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax).
- Manage the annual worker’s compensation audit.
- Manage onboarding of new employees.
- Maintain employee files in Quick Books, as well as physical employee files.
- Manage benefit package and associated costs per company policy.
- Manage employee dates for specific benefit parameters.
- Complete annual property tax returns.
- Work with external CPA firm on tax filings and contractor’s license renewal.
- Manage administrative staff to include training, monitoring, and performance review.
- Download AMEX charges (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday)
- Handle company IT needs, either internally or externally, as needed.
- Manage all company credit cards, including American Express, Visa & US Bank/Voyager fuel cards.
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting.
- Previous experience as a Controller or equivalent position (preferred) or 5+ years of experience in corporate accounting.
- At least 2 years of experience managing people.
- Have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Quick Books Desktop.
- Possess strong organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Must possess extreme attention to detail.
- Can be a leader and maintain a positive and professional attitude.
- Develop & maintain a strong understanding of the responsibilities of each department within Greer Enterprises, LLC as well as the responsibilities of all co-workers and direct reports.
