Technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing protection and control systems used to monitor protection systems in power substations. They must have a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and computer skills, applying this knowledge to work with microprocessor relays, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, pumps, motors, and more.
Duties & Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot protection and control relaying and associated devices.
- Perform calibration of various types of protection and control relays and devices.
- Assist in creating and maintaining protection and control documentation.
- Assist assigned project lead with field assignments.
- Install, program, and maintain protection and control relays and devices.
- Participate in process hazard analyses.
- Maintain knowledge of current industry trends and practices.
Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
- 0-3 years of experience in a controls technician or similar role.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
- Experience with AC and DC systems.
0 - 3 years of related experience.
