Role descriptionArcadis is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Water Management/Hydraulic Structural Team in the following locations:
Baton Rouge, Metairie, New Orleans, Louisiana, or Mobile, Alabama.
- Conduct structural analysis, design, and engineering during construction services for climate adaptation projects, including seismic risk reduction, flood mitigation, and infrastructure resilience initiatives.
- Conduct structural related engineering investigations, calculations, and planning work which has a well‑defined scope.
- Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions and regulatory agency specifications.
- Develop calculations, plans, specifications, requests for proposals, and other contract documents.
- Work directly with a variety of engineering disciplines, office/project staff, clients and sub‑contractors throughout the project life cycle, demonstrating clear oral and written communication skills.
- Exercise judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
- Serve as Design Lead, Task Manager or Project Engineer on projects to manage related budgets and schedules, lead deliverables, and facilitate coordination for timely completion and submission of projects.
- Travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, general planning purposes or to oversee construction activities.
- Mentor entry‑level and junior structural engineering staff.
- 8 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration or Engineering in Training (EIT) with ability to obtain PE within 6 months of hire.
The ideal candidate will have experience in designing flood walls, flood gates, retaining wall structures, and deep foundations, coupled with experience working on resiliency projects. A Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from a reputable institution is a plus, along with progressive experience in structural engineering, particularly focusing on infrastructure projects related to water management, flood control, and seismic resilience. Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as STAAD, MathCAD, AutoCAD, and Revit is also helpful.
Ability to write project specifications and address engineering during construction.
