Full Time Employment Utility & Financial Operations Manager Position Summary
This position is responsible for key accounting, payroll, and financial operations functions for the City, with a primary focus on month-end accounting, utility office supervision, cash controls, and financial reporting support. The role ensures accurate financial records and effective coordination between the finance department and the water utility office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare and post journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including bank reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Oversee daily operations of the Water Office and staff, ensuring accurate billing, customer service support, and cash handling procedures.
- Perform regular cash reconciliations, including utility receipts, water office cash, and petty cash accounts.
- Assist with financial forecasting preparation by compiling data, trend analysis, and departmental inputs.
- Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to audit inquiries.
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with city policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments to resolve discrepancies and improve financial processes.
- Assist with special projects and financial reporting as assigned.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Desire to be an active problem solver and proactive team member.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet recurring deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency with accounting and utility billing software, spreadsheets, and financial systems or strong ability to learn.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Minimum educational experience of an Associate’s Degree in Accounting or similar field. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
- Two to five years of experience in accounting, finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted.
- Experience with customer service will be essential to success in this role. Management experience is preferred.
