Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor

CALTRANS MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

Salary Range: $5,401.00 - $7,032.00 per Month

Responsibilities:

• Work under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent, supervising and operating all Field Maintenance employees and maintenance activities by the assigned unit and ensuring that all Department safety practices are in accordance with District, Department, State, and Federal policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines.
• Possess a valid Class C driver's license.
• Supervise and participate in a wide range of work projects undertaken by the assigned unit, including, but not limited to, rigid pavement maintenance, roadside maintenance, weed control, maintenance of fences, sign replacement and repair, ditches, culverts, litter, debris, sweeping, graffiti, spills, stormwater and NPDES projects, rest areas, vista points, median barrier, snow and ice control, and storm maintenance.
• Schedule and plan work for the assigned unit, ensuring required personnel, materials, and equipment are available.
• Prepare necessary work plans on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.
• Inspect right‑of‑way and recognize deficiencies and hazards to initiate appropriate actions.
• Identify opportunities and conduct workforce development and succession planning.

Working Conditions and Safety Requirements:

• Work boots, in good and sturdy condition, must be worn to provide foot and ankle support protection.
• EITHER long or short‑sleeved shirts provided by Caltrans, or a safety vest is to be worn over non‑safety shirts or coats.
• Long pants. No shorts or cutoffs.
• Provided safety gear: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection devices, face shields, gloves, respirator, chaps, or other safety gear must be worn when required by the Department.
• This is a designated travel crew and requires working out of town up to 80% of the time.

Special Requirements:

• Employee will operate vehicles requiring a Class C commercial driver’s license.
• Ability to supervise and direct the work of subordinate members of the assigned unit and to work safely around high‑density traffic.
• Ability to work effectively alone or with others.
• Must be able to analyze various work situations accurately and make sound decisions.
