Position Summary
POSITION SUMMARY:Performs duties to ensure the safety and supervision of ECSE students on designated bus routes.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB Essential Functions- Supervises the loading onto bus and unloading of assigned students, and other students as required.
- Performs securing and checking of students’ seat belts and/or restraints.
- Cooperates with teachers, teachers’ aides and/or assistants in exchanging students at bus loading/unloading areas.
- Cooperates with parents and/or guardians during loading and unloading, in a proper and pleasant manner.
- Cooperates with the bus driver in a mutually responsible manner, during loading, unloading and travel time.
- Monitors children during travel time to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Assists occasionally with route directions to pick up or deliver children when there is a substitute driver.
- Comforts any student who is upset.
- Assists in fire drills or other safety drills.
Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
- Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping or crouching, reaching, grasping, talking, hearing.
- Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more required.
- Moderate physical demand with lifting (or assisting) average weight (25 to 60 lbs.) children by hand on a daily basis.
- Must be able to manipulate zippers and seat belt fasteners in a timely manner.
- Must be able to assist the driver with a bus evacuation in the event of an emergency.
Conditions:
Subject to both inside and outside working conditions, with regular travel on school bus required.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSEducation:
Basic knowledge of arithmetic, spelling, English, and grammar. Accuracy in checking, posting, proofreading and counting, equivalent to high school diploma. GED may be accepted.
Skills and Abilities- Apply commonsense understanding to carry out one or two-step instructions. Deal with standardized situations with occasional or no variables in or from these situations encountered on the job.
- Add and subtract two digit numbers. Perform the four basic arithmetic operations.
- Reading, writing, and speaking at a basic level.
- Must possess positive, effective “people skills”.
