Job SummaryUnder general direction from the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach helps develop strategies for maintaining the Men s Soccer program. Responsibilities include position-specific skill-work, planning and execution of practices and games, opponent film breakdown, on-campus and off-campus recruiting, in-season conditioning, fundraising events, and various administrative duties including team travel. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to work with a diverse constituency, and compliance with NCAA rules.
The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach. Work schedule often includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Budgeted Salary: By Agreement $37,500 annually

Job Duties75% - Coaching
- Under guidance of the Head Coach, develops technical aspects of player coaching.
- Analyzes performance and instructs participants in program strategies and techniques to prepare them for competition. Observes players to determine needs for improvement and participates in student-athlete performance.
- Ensures adherence to governing rules, university, department, conference, NCAA policies and procedures and NCAA compliance. Represents and promotes professional conduct and high standards at events and matches; may assist in coaching at competitive events.
- Assists with and leads practice and conditioning sessions.
- Travels to contests by driving university, rental, or personal vehicles, including university or rental vans.
15% - Recruiting
- Assists in recruitment of prospective athletes within the framework of the university, department, conference and D3 bylaws and manual.
- Coordinates recruitment to meet roster needs; participates in on- and off-campus recruiting events and manages SPRY and Prospective Student-Athlete documentation.
- Travels for recruiting or conference attendance by driving rental and/or personal vehicle.
10% - Fundraising/Admin
- Participates in fundraising activities including camps and clinics.
- Attends department-wide meetings, committees, and events.
- Bachelor s degree in related area or equivalent experience/training with a college-level program.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with athletic participants, staff, and parents of student athletes.
- Strong judgment and decision-making abilities; effective problem solving.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with players, staff, alumni, recruits, and families.
- Specialized knowledge of the sport and coaching principles; basic technical coaching expertise.
- Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the NCAA, NAIA, or affiliated conference.
- Leadership skills to mentor student-athletes and coaching staff; ability to teach and guide others.
- Proven ability to teach the sport to individuals and teams; personal experience with the sport.
- Strong online communication and social media skills to represent the University and athletics department programs.
- Applied knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Superior organizational skills to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Working knowledge of recruiting software including SPRY.
- Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
- Selected candidate must pass the employment misconduct disclosure process.
- NCAA certified recruiter status or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Valid California driver s license and DMV pull notice program participation.
- Must be able to work on-site and work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Clery Act:
Campus Security Authority duties; required to report crimes and statistics. - Ability to travel to multiple work locations, within a defined region, nationally, or internationally.
- Ability to maintain professional appearance and conduct.
