Intro to Team Summit Mountain Bike Program – Head Coach

(Summer + Fall Programs)
Position Type: Seasonal / Part-Time Pay: $35-$40 an hour Program Focus: Ages 7–11 | Foundational skills, confidence, fun Reports to: Team Summit MTB Program Director Role Overview The Intro to Team Summit MTB Program Head Coach leads the youngest riders in the Team Summit mountain bike program. This role focuses on building a strong foundation in bike handling skills, trail etiquette, teamwork, and confidence—while fostering a lifelong love for riding bikes.

The Head Coach is responsible for program delivery, practice planning, on-trail leadership, and mentoring assistant coaches.

Program Schedule

All practices and camps are based out of Frisco Adventure Park.

  • Summer Program: June 8 – August 5 – Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:00-7:00
  • Fall Program: August 17 – September 30 – Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:00-6:30 pm
  • Town of Frisco Bike Camps (preferred, but not required to work): See camp dates below:
    • June 22nd – 26th – 9:00 am – 4:30 pm each day
    • July 6th – 10th – 9:00 am – 4:30 pm each day
    • July 20th – 24th – 9:00 am – 4:30 pm each day
    • August 3rd – 7th – 9:00 am – 4:30 pm each day
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee all Intro MTB practices and program activities
  • Design age-appropriate practice plans focused on:
    • Fundamental bike handling skills and the 3 essentials (1 finger over each brake, level pedals, eyes scanning ahead)
    • Ready position, balance, braking, bike body separation, small circles, climbing/descending, cornering, and shifting
    • Trail safety, awareness, and etiquette
  • Manage group dynamics and rider safety on trails
  • Communicate clearly with parents, athletes, and program staff
  • Support and mentor assistant coaches and volunteers
  • Assist with special events, skills days, and optional rides as needed
  • Uphold Team Summit values and youth development philosophy
Qualifications
  • Experience coaching youth cyclists and/or working with children
  • Strong mountain biking skills and trail knowledge
  • Ability to manage groups of young riders in outdoor settings
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Background check clearance
  • Passion for youth development and outdoor recreation
  • USA Cycling membership
  • Heads Up certification (or willingness to obtain)
Preferred
  • BICP Level I, PMBIA 1, or equivalent coaching certification (or willingness to obtain certification before job start — certification costs covered by Team Summit)
  • Previous MTB coaching experience
  • Familiarity with Frisco Adventure Park and Peninsula Trails
