The Cordova Recreation & Park District ("District") is seeking reliable and service-oriented candidates to fill multiple positions of Lifeguard II - Assistant Pool Manager for the summer of 2026.

Typical Schedule
:
Up to 30 hours a week from March through October, shifts available every day of the week including holidays.

Summary Description

Under direction of the Recreation Supervisor II, Senior Recreation Coordinator, and pool management, leads and participates in performing lifeguard services during public sessions and swim instruction classes; protects life, prevents accidents, and enforces pool regulations; responds appropriately in the event of an accident/emergency; performs a variety of daily maintenance assignments, such as hosing, sweeping, and cleaning restrooms; and performs related work as required.

Lifeguard II – Assistant Pool Manager is the second working level in the lifeguard series. This classification differs from Lifeguard I in that Lifeguards II serve as the in-charge guards and lead the work of Lifeguards I.

Established in 1958, Cordova Recreation & Park District is an independent special district governed by an elected Board of Directors.

We provide quality recreational programs, parks and services for our diverse and growing region. We currently operate over 50 parks and facilities across more than 600 acres of urban and open space. We also operate Cordova Golf Course which is a full-service 18-Hole course with a lighted driving range, pro-shop and lessons from PGA professionals. We host dozens of events throughout the year and provide athletic, educational and creative outlets for children and adults of all ages.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the supervision of aquatic staff during swim lessons and public swim; observe swimmers and non-swimmers in the pool area to identify and prevent unsafe conditions or hazards.
  • Assist supervisors in conducting staff training throughout the spring and summer.
  • Supervise patrons and participants in pool and deck area;
  • Promote and enforce safety procedures; render care in the most current American Red Cross techniques in water safety, lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR/AED.
  • Use strong customer service and interpersonal skills during public contact during activities.
  • Prepare detailed and complete written reports including accident and incident reports.
  • Act as Department representative to local residents, community groups, private businesses, and others concerning questions and activities in recreation programs and facility operations.
  • Attend all trainings when provided.
  • Assist in the general upkeep of pool and office area and surrounding facility including hosing, sweeping, and cleaning restrooms.
  • Operate a point-of-sale system to accept monies for public swim and concession sales; make change; perform basic mathematical computations; complete daily cash handling paperwork; account for daily revenue and reconcile cash.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge of, Ability to
  • Knowledge of: Basic operations, services, and activities of a swimming facility; lifeguarding principles and lifesaving skills; water safety practices; leadership techniques; general pool maintenance; public relations principles.
  • Ability to: Rescue persons using lifeguard techniques; remain calm in emergencies; maintain fitness; communicate effectively; prepare reports; assist with daily maintenance; respond to public requests; resolve problems promptly; use independent judgment; understand and follow instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; lead assigned staff.
