Description
The Assistant Coach for Men and Women’s Swimming and Diving is responsible for providing assistance and support for the conduct of a comprehensive, high quality NCAA Division I men’s and women’s swimming programs, within the guidelines of all rules and policies established by the department, the institution, the MPSF Conference, and the NCAA, in accordance with the academic standards, and the stated mission of Saint Mary’s College and the Athletic Department.
This position will require daily and/or weekly duties and tasks as assigned by the head coach which require exercising discretion and independent judgment consisting of 75% instructional and 25% recruitment/administrative activities.
In addition to the responsibilities listed, the position requires knowledge and compliance with applicable laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the College and its employees, and the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (including, but not limited to, NCAA Bylaw, Article 11 and its requirement to report all athletically-related income and benefits from sources outside of the College to the President) and of the MPSF Conference as now constituted or as may be amended in the future.
Supervise and ensure that any assistants and any other employees and/or volunteers for whom you are administratively responsible comply with the aforesaid policies, rules and regulations. Immediately advise the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.
Education:
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree PREFERRED: Master's Degree
Experience: 1 to 2 years of progressive experience in swim coaching required,
- 1 to 2 years of progressive experience in the conduct of a collegiate level men’s and women’s swimming program with proven success in recruiting high quality student athletes and/or equivalent related experiences preferred
- Working Knowledge of Team Manager and Meet Manager
Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with all levels of coaches, administrators and staff. Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities. Proficiency with word software and database management. Team-oriented individual with the ability to take initiative. Ability to represent the Department and College in a professional manner to on and off campus constituencies, including alumni, friends, corporate partners and donors.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
Licenses & Certifications
CPR/AED and Lifeguard Trainer Certification (or acquire with in 6 months)
Other Requirements: Must be able to travel and work weekends and nights.
