We are seeking a Principal Engineer for a fast growing martech/adtech start‑up (100‑200 employees, funded).

• Serve as the technical lead for a distributed engineering team, driving backend modernization and architectural unification.
• Bring structure and leadership to systems split between legacy and newer stacks.
• Lead by doing: actively code, review, and set direction with a strong hands‑on bias.

  West Hollywood, California. We’re looking for someone who can work on‑site most days.

• 8–12 years in backend or full‑stack engineering; must be a strong hands‑on builder.
• Experience scaling a start‑up through a major growth or inflection point.
• Strong proficiency with Node.js, React, Graph
  
  QL, Typescript, plus Docker/Kubernetes and AWS (or equivalent). Hands‑on coding expected weekly with ownership of technical direction.
• Proven experience deploying AI/ML solutions (OpenAI, Lang Chain, vector DBs, RAG) as part of backend and product evolution.
• Expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and event‑driven architecture (Kafka, Rabbit
  
  MQ); current environment includes high‑volume data pipelines and rapid growth.
• Skilled at optimizing large‑scale, data‑heavy applications and managing system complexity.
• Experience in martech, adtech, social/engagement tech, or related B2B SaaS environments is beneficial.
• Familiarity with integrating AI/automation into backend systems and working with distributed engineering teams.
