We are looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to help contribute to the growth of our technology platform powering AI/ML systems. As a Senior Backend Engineer at Genies you will play a vital role in solving complex technical challenges that our backend services encounter while scaling and growing our product suite, and also contribute to the growth of our engineering organization.

The position is based in either our San Mateo or Los Angeles HQ and reports to the Vice President of Engineering. Ideal candidates have extensive experience with Golang, Python, or C++, and have worked in compute-heavy areas such as AI and graphics. They are strong leaders who can influence peers and mentor team members while enjoying hands‑on coding, designing APIs, and solving challenging technical problems.

• Develop backend microservices and systems supporting mobile and web applications
• Design and develop ML infrastructure systems
• Design and develop ML applications
• Automate, test, and deploy well‑designed infrastructure, code, and services at scale
• Profile and optimize for load, latency, reliability, availability, and fault tolerance
• Apply best practices in all aspects of web application development including security, testability, release management, and live ops
• Collaborate with product and engineering to gather requirements and refine backlog
• Collaborate with team members on architectural designs and code reviews

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field
• 3+ years professional experience as a software engineer
• Experience with ML systems and heavy compute workloads
• Strong programming skills with proficiency in Python or Golang
• Solid foundation in data structures and algorithms
• Development experience with Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform
• Experience in developing, designing and working with Rest APIs, distributed No
  
  SQL and relational databases, caching systems, event‑driven and multi‑tier architectures
• Expertise in applying software patterns and Microservices patterns
• Knowledge of cloud security best practices and cost‑effective cloud architecture
• Familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure as code
• Self‑starter, analytical, creative, highly motivated with an innovative spirit
• Excellent communication skills

The base pay range is $175,000–$215,000, and full‑time employees may also be eligible for equity compensation in addition to a robust health, wellness, and benefits package.
