To perform a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the painting, care, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
Employment is temporary with a flexible work schedule of varying days and hours per week, not exceeding 27 hours per week.
Examples of DutiesThe following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:
- Apply paints, varnishes, stains, lacquers, enamels, and other finishes to a variety of structures and fixtures.
- Remove old paint and other finishes by chipping, burning, scaling, scraping, sanding, dissolving, water blasting, or sandblasting.
- Mix paint and match colors. Includes mixing latex and oil-based paints, tinting primers and preparing epoxies.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by dusting, wire brushing, washing, and patching holes, dents, and cracks to ensure paint and other finishes will adhere properly. Fill and smooth’s holes, cracks, and joints with spackle, caulk and compound.
- Apply a variety of primers, paints, and other materials by brush, roller, or spray equipment to such surfaces as wood, metal, fiber, plaster, wall board, brick, cement, and canvas.
- Protect other surfaces from spattered or sprayed paint. This includes spreading drop clothes to protect equipment and surrounding areas.
- Apply decals, warning stripes, and slip proof materials.
- Load and unload equipment and supplies from work vehicle.
- Clean paint applicators, brushes, equipment and work sites after paint jobs are completed.
- Prepare work activity reports.
- Move furnishings, equipment and other obstacles to complete paint jobs, as needed.
- Repair and replace inoperative appliances and equipment.
- Change light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Perform minor interior and exterior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, caulking, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry and cement work.
- Lock and unlock facilities as needed.
- Maintain records of planned and completed maintenance work.
- Move and/or deliver records and materials.
- Maintain and repair hand and power tools.
- Make basic repairs to electrical wiring, switches, plugs and outlets.
- Weed, water and maintain planted areas of PCWA facilities.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Tools, materials, processes and techniques of painting trade.
- Drywall and plaster, patch and repair work to plug holes.
- Safety procedures, practices, & PPE for using painting and finishing tools and equipment.
- Proper disposal methods for paints, chemicals and cleaning supplies.
- Proper care of painting tools and equipment
- Methods, materials, standards and tools used in building construction and repair.
- Operation, maintenance and repair of a variety of appliances and equipment.
- Basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, cement work and electrical repair.
- Safety procedures, practices, and PPE related to the use of hand and power tools and facilities maintenance.
- Rules and regulations pertaining to the disposal of common hazardous materials.
- Maintenance and operation of lawn sprinkler systems.
- Basic math.
- Safely and effectively use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Diagnose maintenance problems and identify effective repair solutions.
- Repair and maintain facilities and equipment.
- Work independently with little direct supervision.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
