POSITION SUMMARY: Performs electrician duties, which include the ability to select, install and correctly repair electrical apparatus, in order to ensure safety and satisfactory operation.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

• Reviews and prioritizes work orders for job assignments, inventory and supply actions, as required.
• Performs daily review and prioritizing of work orders, job assignments and routine inventory/supply actions.
• Performs all assigned skilled electrical tasks in accordance with standard practices.
• Sets and maintains building time clocks.
• Troubleshoots and repairs building fire alarm system.
• May assist Fire Marshal with building fire inspections.
• Performs all electrical and related duties to meet code requirements and in a conscientious and safe manner.
• Install and relocate telephone, cable computer/data interfaces, including media boxes.

Marginal Functions

• Installs new lighting wherever needed.
• Assists with engineering, calculating and layout of computer labs.
• Locate fiber optic lines.

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

• Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping or crouching, reaching, talking, hearing.
• Normal attention: with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, ability to adjust eye to bring object into sharp focus, ability to  distinguish colors, all required.
• Moderate physical demand with regular lifting of very light-to-light (1 to 25 lbs.) items and occasional lifting of average items (25lbs. to 60 lbs.) by hand or with mechanical assistance.

Environmental/Atmospheric

Conditions:

Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Subject to both inside and outside working conditions, with some exposure to a variety of physical hazards such as proximity to electrical current and/or moving mechanical parts, as well as adverse atmospheric conditions with some present to the extent of being disagreeable. May be required to wear a respirator.

Travel between buildings may be required.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Knowledge of electrical repair practices and applicable electrical codes, and use of basic tools and equipment of the trade, requiring a basic skills knowledge. Equivalent to graduation from a general or technical high school.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three years up to and including five years of experience as a journeyman electrician or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

• Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
• Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the operations with like common and decimal fractions. Compute ratios, rates, and percentages.
• Reading, writing, and speaking at a basic level.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

Computer and related software, variety of electric powered and hand tools.

Required:

Licensed Journeyman Electrician.
