Job DescriptionPOSITION TITLE: Roofer/Tile Setter
REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs roofing and tile setting duties, including surface preparation, adhesive and material application. Performs tuck‑pointing and masonry surface repair and preparation.

- Patches roof leaks and maintain roof systems in safe and weatherproof condition on all district buildings.
- Cleans, repairs and maintains all building guttering systems on a monthly basis; water blasts building walls that are stained by leaking gutters.
- Must hold certifications in mold remediation and asbestos removal or attain them within one year of position start date.
- Performs maintenance, repair and/or replacement of tile, carpeting, and cove base in classrooms and halls throughout the district.
- Chooses correct materials required to complete assigned projects.
- Performs skilled journeyman roofing/tile setting tasks in accordance with the practices of the trade.
- Performs all asbestos abatement and mold remediation as needed throughout the district.
- Performs all tuck‑pointing and brick/stone repair in accordance with practices of the trade, and in a conscientious and safe manner.
- Performs waterproofing to any masonry surface needed.
- Performs all roofing/tile setting related duties in a conscientious and safe manner.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintains building skylights throughout District by patching holes or cracks.
- May build or repair sheet metal products, as time permits.
- May assist with snow removal from District parking lots, as required.
- Standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, or crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing.
- Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, and ability to adjust eye to bring object into sharp focus, required.
- Moderate physical demand with regular lifting of light (1 to 25 lbs.) items by hand and occasional lifting of average to heavy (25 lb. to over 60 lb.) by hand or with mechanical assistance.
Environmental/Atmospheric
Conditions:
Subject to both inside and outside working conditions, with exposure to noise sufficient to make it necessary to shout, a variety of physical hazards such as proximity to electrical current and/or moving mechanical parts, adverse atmospheric conditions with at least four presents to the extent of being disagreeable be required to wear a respirator. Travel between buildings as required.
Education: Knowledge of roofing and ceiling/ceiling maintenance techniques and use of basic tools and equipment of the trade, requiring basic skills knowledge. Equivalent to graduation from a general or technical high school.
Experience: Requires a minimum of three years up to and including five years of experience as a journeyman roofer or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Skills and Abilities- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the operations with like common and decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate, and percent.
- Perform reading, writing, and speaking at a basic level.
Variety of electric power, roofing and tuck‑pointing hand tools, roof stretcher, bucket truck/lifts.
