Irrigation Technician - Golf

POSITION SUMMARY

Big Cedar is looking for a full-time Irrigation Technician to work on our Paynes Valley Golf Course. Qualified candidates will work in a team environment and be highly focused on providing superior service. This position is a key member of the Golf Course Agronomy Team and will be responsible for operating, adjusting, repairing and providing preventative maintenance to all aspects of a golf course irrigation system.

• Work with and report to the Assistant Superintendents on identifying irrigation issues
• Repair irrigation heads in a timely manner
• Perform weekly preventive maintenance on the irrigation system including the pump houses and transfer pump.
• Assist with setting/adjusting watering programs
• Properly inventory and stock all irrigation parts and tools to minimize down time.
• Report and prioritize any irrigation breaks immediately to the Assistant Superintendents or Superintendent and maintain a daily log of completed repairs.
• Conduct monthly audit of all sprinkler heads on the entire golf facility.
• Routinely inspect irrigation system components to ensure the system is operating properly.
• Responsible for winterization and blowout of irrigation system, including all water lines, valves and pump stations.
• Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
• Keep all drain inlets and valve boxes free of debris and overgrowth.
• Perform other duties as required, such as helping with granular applications on greens and operating mowers.

• Minimum Degree
  
  Required:
  
  High School Diploma or Equivalent
• A 2-4/yr turf degree or certificate is preferred but not required.
• Technical understanding of low voltage electrical systems.
• Rainbird Certificate preferred but not required. Company will assist in training and education to candidate for proper certification of Cirrus Pro.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

• Familiarity with Rainbird Cirrus Pro 2 a plus
• Must be organized, safety conscious, excel in time management skills, and work with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
• Prior golf course maintenance and irrigation experience is a major plus.
• Must be able to multi-task, solve problems, and prioritize well.
• Being capable of working in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to variable and adverse weather conditions.
• A strong work ethic with a desire to learn, improve, and lead by example.
• Knowledge and experience with product applications.
• Ability to do basic math and understand calculations.
• Comprehension and ability to discern information from product labels.
• Calibration experience and understanding preferred.
