This recruitment will be used to build an Eligibility List for the following locations:
Eagle Mountain (Desert Center, CA), Hinds (Desert Center, CA), Iron Mountain (Earp, CA), Gene Camp (Parker Dam, CA), and Intake (Parker Dam, CA). This list will be valid for 6 months from the date a candidate accepts the position.
The Metropolitan Water District's Water System Operations Group has two (2) openings for Operations & Maintenance Technician IV-Mechanical. Two (2) positions are located at Hinds Pumping Plant.
As an Operations & Maintenance Technician IV - Mechanical, you will utilize journey level mechanical skills, experience and knowledge in the practices, procedures, and methods of installing, maintaining, and repairing complex and general water utility and facility mechanical systems.
What You’ll Do- Work hands‑on in the field maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical systems that keep Metropolitan’s water and power infrastructure running.
- Support a wide range of activities at a pumping plant including working with pumps, motors, generators, compressors, and other large equipment.
- Monitor, inspect, and test equipment using predictive diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs to keep systems running at peak performance.
- You will be trained in high‑voltage switching and related operations.
- Collaborate closely with experienced teammates in a safety‑first environment to ensure reliable water delivery and power generation for millions of people.
- You’re a hands‑on problem solver who enjoys working with mechanical systems and takes pride in keeping critical equipment operating safely and reliably.
- You have journey level experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing large‑scale equipment such as pumps, motors, generators, compressors, or related systems.
- You have a strong commitment to safety and promoting a safe environment; performing and following safety protocols and procedures.

These positions are eligible to rent Metropolitan Water District housing.
The Incentive Pay program will be setup to provide a Desert Branch Assignment Premium to qualifying employees as follows: 5% for all employees assigned to Gene Camp or Intake. 15% for all employees assigned to Hinds Pumping Plant, Eagle Mountain, or Iron Mountain.
Schedule: 8/6; 8 Days On (Wed – Wed 6:00am – 4:30pm), 6 Days Off (Thu - Tue)

Education and Experience: High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate in addition to a minimum of 6 years in a mechanical maintenance position in a pump plant, treatment plant, hydroelectric or conveyance and distribution facility or similar environment.
OR High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate in addition to the attainment of journey level skills through a recognized mechanical trade training program.
