Heavy Equipment Operator, Road Construction

Description Summary
Operates heavy equipment and trucks to tow equipment, safely and efficiently. Loads and unloads heavy equipment. Requires knowledge of standard practices, methods, and materials used in street construction and maintenance activities. Requires knowledge of drainage and maintenance of proper grades.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Operates a backhoe/loader, front end loader, heavy roller.
- Builds forms for curbs, road culverts, gutters and sidewalks, retaining walls, storm sewers and concrete paving.
- Operates a motor truck to sand icy roadways, plow snowy roadways.
- Services and makes skilled repairs to equipment.
- Pours concrete and fills pavement cracks with asphalt.
- May also be assigned to semi-skilled or unskilled work, operating generator powered equipment, tractors, and pneumatic equipment.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
RequirementsEducation and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer SkillsNone required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- Valid KY Drivers License
- Commercial Driver's License
The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
