Location: California

Transdev in Boston, MA is seeking experienced B‑Level Mechanics to bolster our team. This role demands expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of diesel, propane, and electric engine school buses. As a Mechanic, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct diagnostic tests using advanced tools and software to troubleshoot diesel, propane, and electric engine issues.
  • Perform moderate complexity repairs and replacements on diesel, propane, and electric engine components.
  • Assist A‑Level Mechanics in advanced diagnostic and repair tasks.
  • Execute routine maintenance tasks to prevent breakdowns and optimize diesel engine performance.
  • Lead diagnostic tests to accurately identify complex issues and determine comprehensive repair strategies.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair tasks, including overhauling and rebuilding components to required specifications.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Diesel or Automotive Mechanic.
  • Bus or heavy‑duty truck repair experience preferred.
  • Must be at least twenty‑one (21) years of age.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • A degree in Automotive Technology, Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain an excellent motor vehicle record.
  • A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
  • ASE certifications in school bus, heavy truck, and/or transit bus preferred.
  • Must possess a Mechanic’s Tool Set.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and various heavy equipment engines, transmissions, starting and charging systems, brake systems, electrical systems, and component overhaul procedures.
  • Ability to operate hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, jacks, and hoists.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner.
  • Ability to comprehend parts books and maintenance manuals, and accurately complete any necessary reports or other documents.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

  • Work in environments outside or inside exposed to varying temperatures, weather, and humidity conditions; work alone and in remote locations.
  • Occasionally stand, stoop, squat, and walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, or crouch to access parts.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped or uneven surfaces.
  • Lift 50 lb. from floor to bus; lift/carry 15 lb. up to 100’; push and pull objects up to 50 lb. up to 8’; torque 100 lb. wheel lugs; lift material weighing up to 50 lb. with or without assistance; and move the steering wheel and operate pedals freely while seated in bus seat.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing duties; tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
