Correctional Officer Position

This position will have an official domicile at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking, MO. However, it requires extensive travel statewide to DAI facilities across the state as directed by the Deputy Division Director. The annual salary is $45,555.60, based on a normal 40‑hour workweek. It is also eligible for retention/longevity pay, shift differential and overtime pay per departmental policy D2‑8.4 Compensatory Time and Office of Administration’s Division of Personnel Differential Pay Guidelines.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 12:00 pm (noon) to 12:00 am (midnight). The Mobile Custody Team Officer must report to the South Central Correctional Center by noon each Monday to receive orders and return at approximately midnight on Friday.

While on assignment, officers receive a state vehicle for transportation, lodging arrangements as required, and reimbursement for meals not provided by the institution or hotel. Officers will carpool in the state vehicle and may share lodging.

Candidates are expected to maintain security in facilities, intervene during emergencies, gain physical control of offenders, supervise movements, conduct counts, search for contraband, escort offenders, supervise housing units, work activities, recreational/religious activities, visits, and conduct inspections for health and safety hazards. They must prepare and submit reports on violations, behavior, mechanical deficiencies, and security breaches, and promote rehabilitation and positive activity engagement.

This position will perform other related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Special Requirements
  • Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
  • Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid/CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
By Assignment, a Position May Require
  • Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

Additional Incentives
  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift that begins between 12:00 pm and 5:00 am and is employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility.
  • A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full‑time at a qualifying facility.
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if assigned a regular post within a restrictive housing/segregation unit.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
