Summary
Transportation Security Officers provide security and protection of travelers across all transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner. Duties may extend to securing high‑profile events, important figures, and everything that includes or impacts our transportation systems.
Salary Information
For Bridgeton, MO (STL – St. Louis Lambert International Airport) the salary range is $44,990 to $57,710 (or $21.56 to $27.65 per hour) including a locality pay of 20.03%.
Duties- Operate screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers.
- Perform searches and screening, including physical interaction with passengers (pat‑downs, searches of property), lifting and carrying bags, bins and property weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Control terminal entry and exit points.
- Interact with the public, give directions and respond to inquiries.
- Maintain focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment that includes noise from alarms, machinery and people, crowd distractions, time pressure, and disruptive and angry passengers.
- Engage in continuous development of critical thinking skills to mitigate security threats, applying risk‑based screening protocols that vary by program requirements.
- Retain and implement knowledge of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures, demonstrate responsible and dependable behavior, and adapt to new information or unexpected obstacles.

Requirements- U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
- Minimum age 18.
- Selective Service registration required.
- Pass structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation and background investigation.
- Subject to post‑employment random drug and/or alcohol testing.
- Available to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
- Proficient in English.
- Mandatory travel for training; occasional travel may be required.
- Exposure to potentially lethal devices and dangerous chemicals is inherent.
- Maintain physical agility to squat, bend, lift and manipulate baggage and containers weighing approximately 50 lbs.
- Walk up to 3 miles during a shift and stand for prolonged periods (up to 4 hours).
To qualify for the SV‑D pay band (GS‑5/6) you must meet one of the following:
- Experience: At least one year of full‑time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X‑ray technician.
- Education: High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC certificate.
Full‑time Positions:
- 40 hours per week.
- Shift work on any day from Sunday through Saturday, including irregular hours, nights, holidays, overtime, extended shifts and weekend shifts.
- Split‑shift consists of any two work shifts, each lasting at least 2 hours in one 24‑hour period, with at least 2 hours between shifts.
Part‑time Positions:
- 16‑32 hours per week.
- Shift work on any day from Sunday through Saturday, including irregular hours, nights, holidays, overtime, extended shifts and weekend shifts.
- Split‑shift as defined above.
