Pay Rate: $22.05 – $23.22 per hour

Job Summary and Purpose

The Lead Monitor II coordinates, supervises, mentors, and oversees the Monitor’s efforts to provide safety for program clients, visitors, employees, and to secure the premises and program assets. This role is performed in a shelter or residential setting with over 100 clients and may involve driving.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assign shifts, ensure 24/7 coverage, and supervise shift operations.
  • Train Monitors in program operations, safety, and security procedures.
  • Shelter security:
    • Monitors entrance and authorizes entry/exit to maintain security.
    • Performs bag and person screening to ensure safety and professionalism.
    • Patrols the premises to prevent intrusion and reports any irregularities.
  • Shelter safety:
    • Monitors for safe operations, reports spills, unsafe conditions, or defective equipment.
    • Is familiar with fire exits and assists in emergencies.
    • Conducts room checks and maintains compliance records for clients.
    • In emergencies, calls police or fire department.
  • Asset protection:
    • Reports suspicious events and protects shelter assets.
    • Completes written reports and incident logs of daily activities.
  • Acts as a role model for participants, placing their needs first.
  • Client/participant support:
    • Answers phones and greets visitors.
    • Maintains office cleanliness and operational areas.
    • Assists staff with setting up classes, meetings, and events.
  • Driving tasks (for licensed Monitors):
    • Transports participants to various locations and ensures vehicle safety.
    • Maintains trip, mileage, and vehicle maintenance records.
  • Inputs required data into computer systems.
  • Performs other duties as required to support program goals.
Essential Duties
  • Train, supervise, and schedule Monitors.
  • Shelter security, safety, and asset protection as outlined above.
  • Client/participant support, including driving tasks if licensed.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Act as a role model for participants at all times.
Qualifications

Requirements

  • Must pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, employment and education verifications.

Education

  • Complete VOALA safety training within 30 days of hire.

Experience

  • 1 year in a mental health or substance abuse treatment setting, or other group residential program.
  • 1 year in general security, social services, or customer service.
  • College coursework, or completion of a homeless training course with a certificate can substitute experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current California driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Experience in a group residential setting and serving the homeless preferred.
  • Database familiarity.
  • Clean driving record insurable by VOALA insurance.
