Job Summary:
Supports the Soybean Breeder in the execution of the research plan while coordinating innovation initiatives across U.S. breeding programs. This role integrates technical breeding responsibilities with alignment in genomic selection, gene editing, and high-throughput phenotyping.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare and manage plots, field books, entry lists, and advancement tools.
- Coordinate agronomic, disease, maturity, and stress data collection.
- Manage phenotypic and genotypic datasets using PBS, R, and internal tools.
- Validate and submit data following breeding standards.
- Support drone flights and high-throughput phenotyping imaging.
- Assist with seed preparation, logistics, nurseries, and international shipments.
- Align planting, harvesting, and field execution with Operations and Warehouse teams.
- Ensure accurate implementation of trials across locations.
- Serve as key contact for GWS, gene editing, and HTP implementation across U.S. programs.
- Track adoption, progress, and bottlenecks of breeding-related innovations.
- Support training, protocol standardization, and communication between breeders, data science, and innovation teams.
- Assist in pilot projects and document results for scaling.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic breeding environments.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Proactive, adaptable, and accountable.
- Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor degree in Genetics, Plant Breeding, or related field. Master’s or Ph.D. preferred
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in plant breeding or agricultural research.
- Strong data and analytical skills; experience with R or PBS preferred.
- Familiarity with small-plot research equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 60 Lbs.
- Ability to travel up to 30–40%.
- Expect extended hours and varying weather conditions during peak planting and harvest seasons.
- Must be able to work safely in outdoor environments and around agricultural equipment.
