The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. OpportunityHudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Production Geologist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7 schedule, day shift rotation.

PositionProduction Geologist
LocationCopper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community‑oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
SummaryReporting to the Senior Geologist, the Production Geologist is responsible for day‑to‑day short term mine geology tasks and determining the flow of material from the mine to the mill, as well as providing ore control boundaries to the mine planners.
Responsibilities- Inspect blast hole cuttings
- Ensure that ore control staking is correct
- Perform field mapping of lithological boundaries and sampling of active faces
- Provide guidance to the blasthole sampling team
- Compile and validate assay data from blast holes and perform the necessary QA/QC checks
- Support diamond and RC drilling activities, monitor drilling progress, and interpret drill chips
- Compile mapping and assay information in 3‑D software and correlate it with existing models
- Assist with ore feed strategies to the primary crusher to provide optimal grade ore to the mill
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports as required
- Perform weekly and monthly reconciliation for model performance and impacts on grade
- Monitor blast movement and provide blast design inputs, including pre and post blast drone flights
- Ensure ML/ARD management principals are followed, and correct litho‑geochemical zones are identified
- Perform any other responsibilities related to the role or as assigned by the department head
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or equivalent
- 2‑5 years of experience working as a geologist in a mining environment
- Certified Professional Geologist designation and registered with EGBC (or eligible for registration)
- Experience in porphyry copper‑gold deposit geology would be considered an asset
- Familiarity with logging diamond core and RC chips is considered an asset
- Working knowledge of Geovia Surpac 3D software or similar industry standard software is considered an asset
