Who we are
We are the first publicly-traded biotech or pharmaceutical company to take the form of a public benefit corporation. Our public benefit purpose is to provide a brighter future for patients through the development of novel pharmaceutical therapies; and technologies that expand the availability of transplantable organs.
United Therapeutics (Nasdaq:
UTHR
) seeks to travel down the corridors of indifference to develop treatments for rare, deadly diseases. We were founded in 1996 by a family seeking a cure for their daughter’s pulmonary arterial hypertension (
PAH
). Today, we have six FDA-approved therapies that treat PAH, pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (
PH-ILD
) and neuroblastoma, a rare pediatric cancer. Our near-term pipeline seeks to develop additional therapies for PAH and pulmonary fibrosis (
PF
).
The cure for end-stage life-threatening diseases like PAH, PH-ILD, PF, and many others is an organ transplant, but only a small percentage of donated organs are available to address the vast need. For this reason, we are working to create bio-artificial organs to address the shortage of kidneys, hearts, lungs, and livers available for transplant. We believe an unlimited supply of tolerable, transplantable organs will eliminate the transplant waiting list and cure end-stage organ diseases for which transplant is not currently an option.
Howyou’ll contribute
Our Regenerative Medicine Lab (RML) team is hiring our next bioprocess associate to support our recellularization efforts. If you have been waiting for your chance to join a team conducting the coolest, most cutting edge science out there, this is your chance. If tissue engineering and regenerative medicine is the role of your dreams and creating a cure for patients waiting on the organ transplant list is what you have been working towards, apply here!
- Work as an integral part of the team to complete lung scaffold recellularization experiments
- Conduct process and system development experiments under manager oversight, including developing new techniques for cell seeding and feeding of the lung scaffolds and improving hardware performance
- Prepare lung scaffolds and reagents for tissue engineering experiments, including media preparation, cannulation, loading scaffolds into bioreactor chambers, preparing cell suspensions, and constructing tubing circuits
- Oversee recellularization bioreactor systems, monitoring system values (pressure, flow, timing) and biological parameters (metabolism, nutrient consumption)
- Consult with the manager and relevant stakeholders on in-process observations
- Collect and document in-process data (e.g., pressures, flow rates) to guide tissue engineering experiments
- Perform routine analyses of in-process measurements and recellularization data to drive system and scientific development
- May handle human tissue, cells, and/or materials that come into contact with human cells that may carry infectious agents. Shall comply with appropriate safety procedures and exercise universal precautions.
- Present data in internal team meetings as needed
- Follow prescribed laboratory methods and protocols under GLP/GMP-like conditions
- Adhere to proper laboratory safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment and handling biohazard materials (human or animal cells and tissues)
- Maintain accurate laboratory data in the in-house data management system(s)
- Record and manage the use of materials and reagents needed for experiments
- Perform all other duties as assigned
- May be required to work occasional evenings or weekends to support lab experiments according to the study design
Minimum Requirements
- 3+ years of laboratory employment experience with an Associates Degree in life science, engineering, or biomedical science or 1+ years of laboratory employment experience with a Bachelor’s degree in life science, engineering, or biomedical science
- Strong collaboration skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Ability to organize and present data
- Ability to independently follow experimental methods and protocols
- Proficient in using standard software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools
