Under close supervision, the Cashier receives cash from customers or employees in payment for goods or services and records amounts received, computes or recomputes bills, itemized lists, and tickets showing amount due using an adding machine or cash register, makes change, cashes checks, and issues receipts or tickets to customers, prepares reports of transactions, reads and records totals shown on cash register tape and verifies against cash on hand.
The worker may give cash refunds or issue credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise, operate ticket dispensing machine, and provide support to the operation, which includes setup, maintaining supplies, and assisting in cleanup and closedown.
- Operate a cash register (or equivalent) and receive payments of cash, checks, and charges from customers or employees for goods or services, making change and issuing receipts or tickets.
- Ensure accurate ring of sale items and/or accurate barcode scan.
- Provide the highest quality of service to customers at all times.
- Maintain proper security of cash at all times.
- Understand and follow cash‑handling policies and procedures.
- May also be required to prepare for service before the meal and clean the dining room after the meal (wiping tables, vacuuming the floor, cleaning chairs, emptying garbage, ensuring acceptable appearance of the dining area).
- May set up and stock the beverage area, grab‑and‑go items, service ware and condiments or other assigned areas.
- Attend all allergy and foodborne illness in‑service training.
- Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular safety meetings, safety trainings, and hazard assessments.
- Attend training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
- May assist in locating, reconciling, and verifying the accuracy of transactions and operating peripheral equipment that records and supports non‑cash transactions.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Follow instructions using structured processes and procedures.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Basic mathematical computation skills (e.g., calculate numbers, count, correct entries, reconcile cash drawers/banks, post records).
- Basic PC (personal computer) knowledge and familiarity with electronic equipment (cash register, scanners, money counters, etc.).
- Identify and work with appropriate tools/equipment.
- Flexibility of schedule changes, work duration, and task assignments.
- Availability to work mornings, days, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to work collaboratively with management, employees, customers, vendors and demonstrate good customer service.
- Ability to use situational awareness and work safely with and around electrical and mechanical equipment, sharp utensils, slick floors, hot steam and water.
- Ability to comply with safety programs and practices.
- Customer service skills that include greeting patrons courteously, providing professional responses to questions related to operations, assisting or directing customers to appropriate areas or personnel, and helping customers with special needs.

- May act as Cafeteria Attendant: lift or move boxes or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds, and up to 50 pounds occasionally; pushing or pulling objects such as broom, mop, vacuum, dish trays, carts; grasping both small and large objects, climbing ladders and/or step stools.
Most work is performed indoors in a cafeteria setting with exposure to various background noise, including equipment, customers, and others working.
