- Operates and maintains hand and power tools (e.g. mowers, shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, blowers, etc.) to maintain buildings, grounds, and roads.
- Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Dig ditches, clean gutters, shovel snow.
- Maintain lawns and grounds.
- Performs duties such as custodial, maintenance, and groundwork as needed.
- Transport people or materials in a motor vehicle to and from destinations within the park.
The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 - 100 pounds (or more) with assistance.
Working ConditionsOutside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area

- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- You may be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- Travel, transportation & relocation expenses will not be paid. Relocation expenses will be the employee's responsibility.
- You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;
or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
- Have the ability to do the work of a Laborer (Motor Vehicle Operating) without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT)
- Work experience that includes the following tasks: have used a wide variety of light hand and power tools (mowers, shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, blowers)
- Operate heavy power equipment such as chainsaws, lawnmowers, string trimmers, weed whackers, brush cutters, chippers, etc. to clear brush and maintain grounds and roads.
- Experience driving and towing equipment over federal, state, and county roads in all weather conditions.
