PRN Veterinary Technician / Assistant III – Surgery
Pet Vet Care Centers’ Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group Orange County seeks a PRN Veterinary Technician / Assistant III – Surgery to join a team committed to exceptional animal and client care.
Position OverviewThe Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing high‑quality veterinary care and outstanding service to patients and clients.
- Assist in patient examinations, diagnostics, and surgical procedures.
- Provide nursing care, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
- Maintain accurate medical records and surgical documentation.
- Support anesthesia and controlled‑substance administration under veterinary supervision.
- Assist in equipment sterilization, inventory management, and operating area cleaning.
- Communicate patient status to owners and veterinarians.
- Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, reviewing care plans, and performing laboratory and imaging studies.
- Provide patient care by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications and vaccines, and bandaging wounds.
- Support patient examinations and operations by assembling supplies, restraining patients, and assisting the veterinarian.
- Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and specialized equipment for safe patient management.
- Verify and administer medications, including controlled‑drug documentation.
- Ensure patients receive food and water, maintain clean rooms, and observe clinical signs of disease.
- Administer medications and prescriptions, logging all controlled‑substance use.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and humane environment by sterilizing instruments, sanitizing areas, storing sterile supplies, and following legal regulations.
- Document patient conditions, reactions, and changes accurately and timely.
- Communicate with pet owners about patient status as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain equipment by troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Manage inventory, place orders, verify receipts, and maintain supply chain.
- Engage in continuing education and professional journal review.
- Release pets to owners, ensuring each animal is clean and fully groomed.
- Follow written and oral directions and perform any other duties as assigned by the manager or practice.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Relevant surgical experience.
- VACSP required to administer controlled substances and surgical anesthesia.
- Certified or Licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT, LVMT).
