Shift: Days.
The Ambulatory Surgery Unit, or ASU, is located on the ground floor of the main hospital adjacent to the Operating Room (OR) and Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). It consists of a 28‑bed surgery prep unit and a 32‑bed outpatient unit for pre and postoperative care for pediatric patients and adult postoperative care.
Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care. Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision of the ASU Nurse Manager, the Pre‑Admission Nurse performs:
- Assessment with the patient prior to admission via a phone interview or in person.
- Collects the patient's medical history from previous medical records.
- Works closely with the anesthesia department in coordinating the patient's needs.
- Performs direct patient care activities for all age groups.
- Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care for patients in accordance with the plan of care, established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
