The Emergency Operations Coordinator in the Emergency Department (ED) is responsible for overseeing and optimizing patient flow, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission preparedness, conducting policy reviews, and enhancing staff satisfaction. This role requires close collaboration with ED leadership, physicians, nursing staff, and hospital administration to maintain efficient and safe operations during both routine and emergency situations.

A key focus of this position is managing patient flow to improve throughput, reduce wait times, and enhance the overall delivery of care. The coordinator identifies and addresses bottlenecks in triage, treatment, and discharge processes while working closely with bed management and inpatient units to facilitate timely admissions and transfers.

Another critical responsibility involves maintaining Joint Commission compliance by ensuring the ED meets all required standards, policies, and emergency management requirements.

Staff satisfaction and engagement are also priorities. The coordinator works to identify and resolve workforce challenges that impact morale and retention. Facilitating communication between front‑line staff and leadership, they help address concerns and develop initiatives that promote a positive and efficient work environment.

A successful candidate for this role typically holds a Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Experience in emergency department operations or emergency preparedness. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are necessary to effectively navigate the complexities of this position. The ability to work under pressure, adapt well to change, and strong organizational skills are a must. A minimum of five years of ED experience in a leadership role is preferred.
