The Nurse Practitioner II position in the Department of Urology requires a highly competent, independent yet team‑oriented individual who will be immersed in the department. Under the supervision of the supervising physician and guided by the applicable policies and procedures, the Nurse Practitioner will participate in the comprehensive care of patients in the ambulatory settings and provide multidisciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians.

A Nurse Practitioner is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide advanced nursing care in their area of specialization. This position may perform functions as appropriate to its scope of practice, including but not limited to:

• Management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standard operating procedures.
• Patient care in age groups based on educational preparation and at all Health‑licensed settings and affiliates.
• Ensuring the standards of care for the specified patient population and demonstrating self‑direction and accountability to quality of care.
• Credentialing and approval of privileges prior to commencement of employment.

• Educational training and/or experience to support the setting and patient population.
• Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
• Diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.
• Customer‑service skills suitable for the job.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes.
• Ability to maintain an appropriate work pace.
• Expertise and ability essential for the successful performance of assigned duties.
• Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.
• Adherence to privacy, confidentiality and security policies related to Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
• Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
• Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license.
• Current, active, unrestricted NP license and DEA registration.
• Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• NP National Board Certification (Beginning February 2018):
  Adult Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP‑BC) or FNP.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current ACLS Certification.
• Urology ambulatory clinical experience.
• Oncology experience preferred.
• Minimum 6 months NP experience.
