Healthcare Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist
Location: Louisiana
The Louisiana Center for Bleeding & Clotting Disorders Hemophilia Nurse Specialist for the Department of Medicine, Section of Hematology/Oncology will be responsible for assisting in the direct care of hemophilia and other bleeding disorder patients throughout the state and region. The LCBCD Hemophilia Nurse Specialist is responsible for the delivery and management of patient care and oversight, utilizing the nursing process, the healthcare environment and current technology to provide a climate which optimizes patient care and staff development.
Responsibilities- Perform a variety of direct patient care activities and assist with procedures to the appropriate level of training and established protocols.
- Complete clinical assessments, delivery of prescribed therapies, prior authorizations, visits to inpatients, and discharge planning.
- Provide professional phone triage and administer infusions and other therapies in both the clinic and hospital setting.
- Document all interactions in the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Perform clerical functions to support the practice as instructed.
- Maintain the physical environment of exam and procedure rooms and order tests, labs, and prescriptions as per physician orders.
- Serve as an active contributing member of the Louisiana Center for Bleeding & Clotting Disorders (HTC).
- Minimum one (1) year experience in an outpatient clinical setting.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multi‑responsibilities in outpatient / inpatient settings.
- Knowledge of computer programs for clinical data entry.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed.
- Available for on‑call duty.
- Ability to travel to outreach clinics, trainings, patient camps, retreats, and educational programs.
- Self‑motivated individual with good organizational and communications skills.
- Ability to work with diverse population.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
Education and/or Experience
- Registered Nurse with current Louisiana licensure by date of hire.
- Five (5) years clinical nursing experience in either ambulatory nursing care, med‑surgery, and/or pediatrics, including venipuncture experience.
